At 2 years and 4 months, Alivia is thriving as a 2-year-old! The biggest news is…she’s potty trained! YEAH! She has been showing interest in the potty for months and slowly progressed but never could fully cross over. Our biggest problem was her not telling us when she had to go and being afraid to poop in the potty (sorry if that's TMI). Finally over Mother’s Day weekend, she began getting over both issues and by the end of the following week, she was a pro. She’s had a few accidents but is really being responsible about her part of the deal. What’s been cute about this whole thing is that she’s picked up on the encouragement we give her when she goes potty, so she returns that enthusiasm when she’s with one of us in the bathroom. Tyler gets lots of cheers for peeing. :) We are thoroughly enjoying our diaper-free summer!
Independency is a big deal for Alivia. She can dress herself, put on (some) shoes, get off and on the potty alone (mostly) and climb onto our tall dining room chairs, among other things. She isn’t the best listener, so we are working on that.
She’s full of endearing phrases and talks a ton. One of my favorites is something I think Tyler said when he was 2: “I hold you.” – meaning she wants us to hold her. Overall, her personality is a mix of sweet and silly, and we are having a lot of fun with her.
Alivia idolizes Tyler and follows him around like a shadow. Anything he does, she wants to do, so when she can’t, she’s not overly happy but thankfully easy to distract. Having an older brother means she’s a cute cross between a girly girl who loves to wear dresses and a tomboy. The best example of this is the purse she insists on bringing with her when we go shopping. The only thing in it is a baseball.

Healthwise, she just had a periodic checkup with her pediatrician. All seems good! She's 26.2 pounds (23rd percentile) and 35 3/4 inches (65th percentile - she's grown nearly two inches since February!). Her BMI is lower than it was in February, which basically means she's gotten a bit leaner as she's grown taller. She's frankly too busy to eat sometimes, so we usually get one good meal in her each day (dinner). Her weight is still going up, and she's hovering around the same percentile she's been in all year, so no worries. Her next checkup is in September with her cardiologist. We'll do an echo then, which I'm already anxious about. I will never, ever stop worrying about this child no matter how strong she shows us she is.
With the new baby coming, we are changing a few things in Alivia’s world – her changing table is now in our room, which she was pretty fascinated with the first few days after the move, and she knows eventually the baby will get her bed. She seems OK with that. We also have brought out some other baby gear, which she wants to try out herself.
She’s been in a really big “mommy” phase, where she only wants me to hold her or help her, so we might have some drama when the baby arrives. Or maybe by then she’ll swing into a “daddy” phase. I don’t expect many problems from her, but I don’t think the transition to three children will be as easy on her as the transition to two children was for Tyler. Time will tell!
